How it works
Words are counted by splitting on whitespace - a rough but standard approach (it's why "don't" counts as one word, not two). Sentences are estimated by counting sequences that end in ., !, or ?. Reading time uses the common estimate of 200 words per minute for adult silent reading; speaking time uses 130 words per minute, a typical spoken pace. Keyword density counts how often each significant word (common stopwords like "the" and "and" are excluded) appears relative to the total word count.

- Does it count hyphenated words as one or two?
- As one - a hyphenated word like "well-known" has no space in it, so the whitespace-based counter treats it as a single word, matching how most word processors count it too.
- How accurate is the reading time estimate?
- It's a widely-used average (200 words/minute for reading, 130 for speaking), but actual pace varies a lot by person and content difficulty - treat it as a ballpark, not a precise measurement.
- What counts as a "keyword" in the frequency list?
- Words of 3+ characters that aren't common stopwords ("the", "and", "of", etc.) - short and filler words are excluded so the list actually reflects your content's topic, not just its grammar.
